Your Skills for Language Account

Visit the Skills for Language SELT website and select the exam you are interested in. You will be prompted to create a Skills for Language Account.
 
Click here to register for your exam using your existing credentials (username and password).

You must have a valid form of photographic ID, such as a Passport, EU ID card, Valid Travel Document (this does not include Emergency Travel Documents), Biometric Residence Permits (BRP), Biometric Residence Card (BRC), Government ID card (only accepted in the country it was issued in). You MUST ensure ALL your Candidate Profile details (names, date of birth, ID number, nationality) match identically to the details contained within the ID. Please note, you MUST bring the SAME photo ID on exam day.
 

A test taker who has changed their name from the one in their identity document MUST PROVIDE ACCEPTABLE IDENTIFICATION IN THEIR NEW NAME. The following documents will NOT be accepted:

  • marriage certificate
  • UK spouse visa in a passport or a Biometric Residence Permit (BRP)
  • original deed poll change of name document

Where a test taker does not have a valid identity document they should Contact the Home Office.

If a test taker has a previous gender (including a different name) that they do not want the test centre staff to see or for it to show on their test result, they should email sensitivebookings@homeoffice.gov.uk before booking the test.

Before your Exam

At present, the majority of SELT Test Centres around the world are open. However, if your local Test Centre is closed, you can purchase a LanguageCert SELT exam voucher online, which will allow you to book an exam slot at a later date, once your local SELT Test Centre re-opens.
 
As per UKVI requirements, UK visa exams must be taken at SELT Test Centres. To find a SELT Test Centre near you.
 
Skills for Language SELT exams are not available to take through Skills for Language Online exams with remote, live invigilation. Skills for Language SELT exams are only available at Skills for Language SELT Test Centres.
 

You can book a Skills for Language SELT exam. Alternatively, if you have been provided with an exam code by your training organisation, simply sign up or log in to your Skills for Language account on our website.

 

You can reschedule booked exams in two ways:

  • Log in to your candidate account on www.languagecert.org
  • Go to Overview section → My Exams → Select Exam → Change Date
  • Contact LanguageCert customer service at or the dedicated SELT phone numbers available on Skills for Language

Please note that you can reschedule your exam free of charge up to 72 hours before its start time. An administrative fee will be charged after this point.

The following fees apply:

  • Up to 72 hours before the exam: Free
  • Less than 72 hours before the exam: £50
  • Post-exam: £100
  1. If you bought a SELT voucher without booking a specific exam date, you can request a full refund within 14 calendar days after purchase. Simply contact LanguageCert customer service at Skills for Language  or the dedicated SELT phone numbers that are available on Skills for Language
  2. If you booked a specific exam date, you can request a refund by completing the “Refund Request form”, which must be submitted to LanguageCert customer service at selt@languagecert.org.

Refunds:

  • Up to 72 hours before the exam: 50% refund
  • Less than 72 hours before the exam: no refund (in the case of emergencies a 50% refund applies)

No, there is no car parking available at any of the SELT Test Centres. It’s important that you plan your journey in advance in order to arrive at the Test Centre at the specified time. If you will be driving to the Test Centre please make sure that you plan ahead to identify nearby car parks.
 
All of our test centres have pre-exam waiting areas. Please ensure that you dispose of any tissues, empty drinks bottles or cups and general rubbish appropriately. Please avoid leaving any such items undisposed within the test centre.

During your Exam

  • Exam instructions will be provided at the Test Centre on the day.

Any personal belongings, such as bags, car keys and mobile phones, will be stored away in a locker during the exam process and are not allowed in the exam room.
 
 

LanguageCert International ESOL SELT (Speaking & Listening) is a short session during which both skills are tested.

LanguageCert International ESOL SELT (Listening, Reading, Writing & Speaking) consists of two components, Written (Listening, Reading, Writing) and Spoken (Speaking). Exams can be taken independently, as long as they are taken within 14 days of each other.

 

Depending on visa type, candidates are asked to take a two-skills (Speaking & Listening) or four-skills (Listening, Reading, Writing & Speaking) exam.

The LanguageCert International ESOL SELT (Speaking & Listening) exam is a short online conversation with a live interlocutor.

The LanguageCert International ESOL SELT (Listening, Reading, Writing & Speaking) exam consists of two components:

  • Written component (Listening, Reading, Writing), which is taken on a computer
  • Spoken component (Speaking), which is an online interview with a live Interlocutor
Bathroom breaks are only allowed during the Reading and Writing parts of the exam.

It is compulsory for everyone to wear masks at our global SELT Test Centres (including in the UK) for the foreseeable future. If you have a medical exemption, please contact our Customer Service team to discuss special arrangements.

Exam Results and Certificates

The pass mark for each exam differs and will appear on your Test Report. To find the pass mark for a specific SELT exam, visit the Skills for Language website.
 
 
Test Reports are sent via email and are also uploaded to the your Skillsforlanguage account. These are issued in 3 working days for two-skills (Speaking & Listening) exams and in 5 working days after both components have been completed for four-skills (Listening, Reading, Writing & Speaking) exams. Preliminary results are released a few minutes after the exam for the two-skills (Speaking & Listening) exam.

Exam Types

Secure English Language Test (SELT) exams are UK Home Office approved exams for UK Visas and Immigration (UKVI) worldwide. Skills for Language International ESOL SELT exams cover all visa type requirements and is one of very few UKVI approved global SELT providers.
